TITLE: Clean Transportation Program Manager
TERMS: Permanent Full-Time Position (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday)
LOCATION: Toronto or Ottawa
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position is hybrid, with a combination of remote work and 2 days per week required in-office.
REPORTS TO: Director of Campaigns
SALARY: $80,000

Purpose of the Role
Environmental Defence seeks a highly-committed and experienced Program Manager with knowledge of clean transportation, public transportation and zero-emissions vehicle policy. The program manager will be responsible for leading Environmental Defence’s efforts to help grow electric vehicle adoption in Canada, build support for high speed rail, and grow the mode share of public and active transportation. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience with climate policy and project management. Experience in government relations, policy development and communications would be an asset.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Draft policy submissions to the government on clean transportation, participate in briefings, committee hearings, and represent EDC in consultations and stakeholder meetings.
- Engage in policy discussions and collaborate with allies supporting clean transportation policies in Canada.
- Monitor the clean transportation policy landscape and stay up to date on new developments in Canada and relevant jurisdictions.
- Research and write policy reports, blogs and media backgrounders on clean transportation files.
- Participate in the development and delivery of government relations strategies and support in the development of strategies for communications and supporter engagement.
- Develop relationships with civil servants, elected officials, and political staff relevant to clean transportation files at various levels of government.
- Produce relevant communications-ready information that can be used for blogs, video, website text, press releases, op-eds, newsletters, social media content, reports
- Collaborate with allies across these files to build support and consensus on clean transportation priorities
- Draft press releases, op-eds, and communications materials and act as a spokesperson for Environmental Defence.
- Manage stakeholder relationships and contractual agreements with external partners.
Skills and Experience
- Experience with climate and/or clean transportation legislation, regulation and policy
- A solid understanding of policy development and advocacy
- A demonstrated desire to affect change in public policy to enhance environmental protection and the public interest
